How can I troubleshoot and prevent common issues with my houseplant?

Watering: Your easyplant Sensor takes the guesswork out of watering. Instead of manually checking the soil, simply check your app status or press the sensor button. If the light flashes blue or the app reads "Needs Water," it's time to refill the reservoir. Always use room-temperature tap water, or filtered water if your tap water is chemically softened or hard.

Lighting: Place your plant in light suitable for its species. If the location isn't right, your sensor will alert you by flashing an orange light and updating your app status to "Needs More Light".

Environment: Avoid placing plants near direct heating or cooling sources like vents or radiators. Note that our sensors are rated for indoor use only; keeping your plant and sensor inside protects the hardware from extreme temperature fluctuations. Let your plant adjust to its location, and avoid moving it frequently to prevent stress.

Trim & Prune: Cut away damaged, yellow, or brown leaves with clean, sharp scissors to encourage your plant to grow new foliage.

Verify with the easyplant Sensor: Check your app for a green light status to ensure moisture levels are optimal. Remember our golden rule: always trust your plant first. If the app reads "All Good" but your plant is consistently dropping yellow leaves, the soil may be holding too much moisture. Hold off on watering and allow the sensor a few weeks to fully calibrate to your specific plant's environment.

Dry Out the Soil: Gnats and mold thrive in persistent surface moisture. Allow the soil to dry out completely.

Monitor the Trend: Keep an eye on your app's historical moisture graphs to ensure you aren't watering too frequently. Sprinkle cinnamon on the top layer of soil to naturally inhibit fungal growth.

Aeration: Increase airflow to the root system by gently poking holes in the soil around the plant base with a clean straw or stick. Be careful not to disturb or bump the sensor probe while doing this so it stays securely positioned in the soil.

Water Quality: Use filtered or mineral water to avoid salt and buildup, which can harm your plant's roots over time.

Humidity: Increase humidity around the plant with pebble trays or a room humidifier, especially for tropical species sensitive to dry indoor air.

Light Adjustments: If your sensor frequently triggers an orange "Needs More Light" warning, move the plant closer to a brighter window or introduce a supplemental grow light.

Fertilization: Use a mild liquid fertilizer formulated for houseplants and follow the instructions on the packaging. If you have an easyplant: Dilute it to 1/4 strength before adding it directly to the reservoir.

Repotting & Sensor Reassignment: If roots are pushing through the soil or water depletes rapidly, it may be time to repot. Important Note: If you move your esayplant Sensor to a completely new plant after repotting, doing so through the app settings will permanently erase its previous historical data so it can accurately recalibrate to its new home.
