How do I tell which plants are safe for children and pets?

Updated over a week ago

Great question! You can easily see which plants are pet friendly right on the main page for each size, by looking in the top left corner for the pet friendly icon!

Pet friendly plants are plants that are not toxic to ingest (for dogs, cats and humans) and are unlikely to cause any skin irritation in humans. We still don't recommend eating the plants though, since while they are not toxic, they are not tasty and may have been sprayed with pesticides and are not food safe!

Additionally, to protect your plants from curious pets, consider placing them on high shelves or in hanging planters. Restricting pet access to certain rooms or areas can also effectively minimize unwanted interactions with your plants.

On each pet friendly plant page they will also have an icon stating it is safe for pets and people!

Any plant without this icon is not pet or child friendly and should be kept out of the mouths of any curious animals or children!

To further safeguard your plants, you can use deterrents like neem oil sprays, which are safe for both pets and plants, and have a natural scent that pets find unappealing. Always apply these sprays according to the instructions and ideally after dark to avoid sunburn on your plants. Alternatively, diluted citrus sprays can also be used effectively. However, it is advised not to use aluminum foil as a deterrent as it could block air circulation to the soil, impacting plant health.
