Picking an easyplant for low light rooms

Written by Megan T

Low-light areas are spaces where you would need additional artificial light, such as a lamp or overhead light, to comfortably read during the day. No-natural-light areas, on the other hand, are spaces that rely entirely on artificial lighting. We have an easyplant for every scenario. Low light easyplants are tagged on in our store as shown in the example below.

For instance, artificial lighting such as an 8-hour daily room light is sufficient for some plants, while others might prefer a space with minimal natural light or filtered sunlight. Most low-light plants can thrive with regular ambient lighting, and if using a grow light, it should be positioned higher to reduce intensity for plants that prefer indirect light.

Low light easyplants to choose from

For spaces with no natural light but access to artificial lighting, consider these options:

  • Green Snake Plant

  • Golden Snake Plant

  • Black ZZ Plant

  • Jade Pothos

  • Chinese Evergreen

  • African Spear

  • Sansevieria Sayuri

  • Mistletoe Cactus

  • Cast Iron Plant

  • Lady Palm

You can learn more about choosing the right easyplant for you in this guide

  1. Maintain Artificial Light Exposure: Ensure plants receive 8–10 hours of artificial light daily.

  2. Rotate Plants Regularly: Turn pots occasionally to allow even light exposure.

  3. Avoid Direct Drafts: Keep plants away from AC vents and heaters which could harm their growth.

  4. Provide Humidity: Use pebble trays or misting for plants needing higher moisture levels, especially in dry environments.

  1. Reduced Watering: In lower light, plants use less water. Allow the soil to dry out more before refilling the reservoir. Check moisture a few inches below the surface with your fingers or a chopstick and only refill when it feels quite dry.
